G has been trying to make me drink milk or at least take a form of it because he says it's healthy. it has nothing to do with the fact that he adores milk and can drink 1L of it in one sitting. Yogurt's not really my thing so he makes me try types of produits laitiere available.
now i've discovered the wonders of creme a la vanille, creme aux oeufs, the danettes, and my favorite: riz au lait. it's actually a dessert wherein rice is cooked in milk. it sounds weird at first because as a filipino, mixing rice with milk makes me think of vomit. ...really! it actually looks a bit like vomit at first too...grains of rice swimming in white liquid. anyway, i'm not making it sound better with that description but it's really really good that i get a pack everytime we go to the grocery store.
G said it's actually very easy to make so i tried my hand in making my first riz au lait. horay! It's not rocket science, that's true. G found the recipe at the back of a box of Riz Rond (it's something like Arborio).
Riz Au Lait Maison
1L fresh milk
100g rice
5 tablespoons of sugar
1 sachet of vanilla sugar
lemon/orange zest (optional)
1. Boil milk, sugars and zest.
2. Add rice to boiling milk.
3. Simmer in low heat for 15-20 minutes
4. When rice starts to show, take off heat & cool.
5. Taadaaa!!! Riz Au Lait!
the recipe says it's for 4 people but i think i filled at least 6 yogurt pots. this means we'll have this as our dessert for at least 3 days....i think i won't be making this dessert nor buying it for the next few months or so. too much of a good thing just spoils it for you.
i thought it was so-so but G said it was really good. so who am i to argue with a french man right?
but then again he says that for anything home made. i still remember the chocolate lave cake i made which turned out more like lava than cake and he still loved it. you don't call them husbands for nothing.
peace & luv,
xc
