xc and the banana cake

horay!!!

G's dad gave us a mini oven (for our mini kitchen) after christmas. he remembered he had one in his garage when i was telling him how sad it was that i can't make a lot of french dishes (read: dessert) because we didn't have an oven. so returning to paris from the christmas break in britanny greg was lugging with him a small box with the mini oven in it.

i couldn't wait to try it out. i already downloaded loads of recipes for tarts, quiches, and all goodies one can make with an oven. but it wasn't until the other day that we finally had measuring stuff for baking. actually, we just borrowed it from the best neighbor in the world, sophie.

and off to baking wonderland it was for me. on the menu: gateau a la banane...yeah yeah, it's just plain banana cake but G loves it to bits.

I adore martha stewart and her fabulous cookies, cupcakes, and cakes but it's too hard to get baking soda and baking powder in paris. you have to get baking soda from the pharmacy and not in the supermarkets. so i got the recipe from a french website using ingredients easily bought anywhere.

gateau a la banane

We only had 1 bread pan or whatever you call it and I still had a lot of batter left after filling the pan so I took 2 ramequins and made 2 small cupcakes in it.

Recipe:

4 bananas
160g butter (we used demi-sel, of course - due to insistent public demand)
4 eggs
200g brown sugar
250g flour
1 sachet levure chimique (i'm not sure if this is baking poder or soda)
1 sachet sucre vanille
1 tablespoon dark rum

smash the bananas and set aside. mix butter and eggs then all dry ingredients with it, don't forget the rum. bake in th 3/4 (i don't know the real temp.) for 30 minutes et voila voila!!!

i swear it's really good.

i'll be making some sort of tarte next time.

peace, luv, and happy baking,
xc
