i do know how to cook, let's make that clear. ask mio, he's my biggest fan (i think). there's one main reason why i haven't cooked a lot since i arrived here almost a month ago: my husband cooks better than me. ask mio, he'll say the same (he still craves for g's curry).
so since the husband cooks, i am left with the dishes. and i try to get away from it as much as i can, but it's no use. so last night i decided that i'll make dinner so as not to get stuck with the dishes.
we are going away this weekend so we need to use the food that would expire in a few days. we still had a pack of salad greens, left over feta cheese, and lardons (small strips of bacon). we just had to get some tomatos from the corentin celton street market. we were also able to get a pineapple for 1 euro (originally 2 euros) for dessert. plus a demi-baguette from the boulangerie at the corner.
make a simple olive oil - balsamic vinaigrette, cook the lardons until golden and crispy, mix them all up in a 7 euro Ikea wooden salad bowl (that g absolutely adores), and you have one really good heavy salad for dinner. eat the baguette with the salad or dip it in the vinaigrette to clean up your plate.
fine fine. so technically it's not cooking, aside from frying the lardons. but it's the effort that counts. anyway, g said it was really good...even though he added a bit more balsamic vinegar on his plate (i get sick if there's too much vinegar). ha!
for dessert we each had one slice of pineapple, 1 small mars bar and g had his mandatory (yes, mandatory) pot of creme caramel. a very good well balanced dinner while watching The Love Guru.
it's actually a good thing i didn't really "cook" and just made something simple...because i ended up doing the dishes anyway.
next on the menu: surely some awesome homemade southwestern french food in a gorgeous property in the province.
peace and luv,
xc
